TIERNAN DOUIEB: PHOENIX FRINGE
It's that time of year again. Yes, Phoenix Fringe, the comedy fringe festival that's perfect for Londoners who don't want to go to Edinburgh, is back for a ten day extravaganza of super stand up.

To find out more about what's happening this time, I spoke to that nice Tiernan Douieb, festival organiser, about Phoenix Fringe, but also a bit about his own show and plans for the future. And you can read that interview here.

If you're already at the Phoenix to see Aisling Bea, it would be foolish not to catch Nish Kumar as well. You don't want to be considered foolish by a faceless writer of cultural tips, do you? No, of course not. Details and tickets here.

THEATRE: Stuart Bowden | Battersea Arts Centre | 31 Jul

Stuart Bowden's latest show promises "live music, vigorous dance moves, understandable words and a fair bit of profound (probably life changing) body movement". Can he deliver? I would wager that he can. Details and tickets here.

COMEDY: Jonny And The Baptists - The End Is Nigh | The Phoenix | 1 Aug
Musical comedy at the Phoenix Fringe tonight, with the excellent Jonny And The Baptists. Last year Jonny mistakenly told his four year old niece that climate change would bring about the end of the world. To stop her crying, he promised to fix it. COMEDY: Katherine Ryan and Harriet Kemsley | Cutty Sark Studio Theatre | 1 Aug (pictured)

I can only apologise for the dilemma I've just put you in, because somehow you're going to have to choose between these three shows tonight. CHILDREN'S SHOW: Whale In A Bathtub | London Welsh Centre | 3-22 Aug
It's the first day of the Camden Fringe today, and here to kick things off is a piece of children's theatre that uses puppets, movement and music to tell a story of three teenagers who find a whale washed up on a beach and decide to take it home and keep it as a pet in a bathtub. COMEDY: Milton Jones - Work In Progress | The Phoenix | 3 Aug

DANCE: Phaedra | The Cockpit | 4 Aug

One of tonight's Camden Fringe performances is 'Phaedra', a solo dance piece based on 'Hippolytus' by Euripides, performed by Eirini Apostolatou and directed by Christiana Ioannou. Details and tickets here.

VISUAL ART: Penny Woolcock - Utopia | The Roundhouse | 4-23 Aug
Filmmaker, writer and artist Penny Woolcock takes over the main space at Camden's Roundhouse with an installation created in partnership with Block9. 'Utopia' is a cityscape built form the stories of the lives of Londoners. Details and tickets here.
