THEATRE: What The Women Did, Southwark Playhouse, 22 Jan – 15 Feb
As the 1914 centenary gets underway, the Southwark Playhouse and Two’s Company again shed light on these three rarely-staged plays highlighting the effects the Great War had on women, with Tricia Thorns directing JM Barrie’s ‘The Old Lady Shows Her Medals’, Gwen John’s ‘Luck Of The War’ and ‘Handmaidens Of Death’ by Herbert Tremaine. The world premiere of Omar El-Khairy’s script looks into the consequences for ordinary people of the sorely contentious Israel-Palestine conflict, in particular through the uncompromising Israeli prison system.
