TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature Miranda Hart, Swans king Michael Gira, and outside-the-box drama troupe Ridiculusmus…
COMEDY: Miranda Hart – My, What I Call, Live Show, O2 Arena, 12-13 Mar
Say what you like about ‘Miranda’ the slapstick TV smash, but don’t say it in front of the actual Miranda Hart, who rolls into The O2 tonight to talk, sing, dance, and probably fall over a lot. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: Michael Gira, St John-at-Hackney, 12 Mar (pictured)
Iconic frontman of grandiose prog-rock band Swans, Michael Gira, sings solo as part of a clutch of shows avant-garde auteur, composer and all-round good guy William Basinski is curating at St John’s Church this month. The residency is designed to recreate the ‘vibe’ of Basinki’s famed Arcadia space in Brooklyn, a mecca for experimental artists in the 1990s. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Eradication Of Schizophrenia In Western Lapland, Shoreditch Town Hall, 12-15 Mar
Theatre troupe Ridiculusmus’s Jon Haynes and David Wood script and co-star in this new piece, which splits its audience into two halves, each experiencing entirely different sets of ‘auditory hallucinations’. This technique is inspired by a real treatment that nearly, as per the play’s title, eliminated schizophrenia in Western Lapland. On one hand a disorientating ‘comic delusion’, the mix of sounds also offers hope and a world of life-changing dialogue. Details and tickets here.
