TODAY IN LONDON, ThisWeek’s tipped events feature an anti-war declaration by Irish playwright Sean O’Casey, one ‘Cool Rider’, and pop’s new intelligensia: These New Puritans…
MUSIC/ART: These New Puritans – Magnetic Field, The Vinyl Factory, 15-21 Apr
Alto-pop braniacs These New Puritans will display (and invite fans to interact with) their ‘Magnetic Resonator Piano’, a gadget that featured on the band’s 2013 LP ‘Field Of Reeds’, via this free-entry exhibition. TNP have also invited acts like East India Youth, Will Dutta, Halls, Gwilym Gold, Scanner and Charles Hayward to play live on site at the installation, working the MRP into their shows. Details here.
THEATRE: Cool Rider, Lyric Theatre, 15-19 Apr
Back in the saddle following the show’s short spin at the Lyric Theatre earlier this year, ‘Cool Rider’ is a deliberately sugary spread of Pink Ladies, sex ed sing-songs, and a motorcycle vigilante in black. Ashleigh Gray and Aaron Sidwell play dancin and romancin Rydell High kids Stephanie and Michael in this wry take on 1982’s hammy ‘Grease’ sequel, ‘Grease 2’. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: The Silver Tassie, National Theatre, 15 Apr – 3 Jul
National Theatre AD Howard Davies takes charge of this acrid and blackly-comic anti-war diatribe by Irish dramatist Sean O’Casey. ‘The Silver Tassie’ stars Ronan Rafferty as a dashing young soldier crippled by the horrors and hardships of WW1. Details and tickets here.
