Zoom zooming over to this Tom Webb-MC’d edition of Zip Zip Comedy is elastic character comedian Adam Riches, who joins in with ‘Derek’ thesp David Earl’s greasy creation Brian Gittins, Bob Slayer, Luke McQueen and Rob Pybus. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC/FILM: Kronos Quartet w/ Jarvis Cocker + Bryce Dessner | Barbican | 13 May
US strings-masters Kronos Quartet have just turned 40, and as such are honoured tonight with commissions by The National guitarist Bryce Dessner, composer Philip Glass and Pulp’s own Jarvis Cocker, all past Kronos collaborators. For his course, a multi-instrumental ‘dialogue’ titled ‘Kerf’, Cocker will play the organ alongside the Quartet, with David Coulter on the saw. The evening will end with a the British premiere of Sam Green’s film ‘Kronos At 40′. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Bash – Latterday Plays | Trafalgar Studios | 13 May – 7 Jun
These three plays by Neil Labute – collectively titled ‘Bash’ – are sketches dealing in ‘everyday evils’, specifically in this case, murder. In ‘Iphigenia In Orem’, a Utah businessman details a chilling crime to a stranger; whilst in ‘A Gaggle Of Saints’, it’s young mormon couple in NYC doing the killing. In the same vein, ‘Medea Redux’ looks at a woman’s intimate relationship with her high-school teacher. Details and tickets here.
