Underwire Film Festival

And so, a summary of today’s TW London-selected cultural experiences…

The Invisible Dot presents… Four Edinburgh Shows In Four Nights, The Invisible Dot, 20-24 Nov
TID presents four Edinburgh Fringe smashes for the price of… well, less, if you buy tickets to see three acts. Sceptical ex-Norwegian-of-the-moment Daniel Simonsen headlines tonight with his award-winning ‘Champions’ set, while Andrew Maxwell, Reginald D Hunter and faux-improv oddity Claudia O’Doherty play for laughs across three successive nights. Admittance is £8 a show, or £20 for a triple-show bargain bonanza. Details here.

Monster Comedy presents… Allnutt & Simpson, Adam Hess and Lou Sanders, Leicester Square Theatre, 20 Nov
Monster Comedy – who very un-monstrously gives all its profits to charity – scares a freakishly strong cast of comics into appearing at its monthly LST night, not least the always busy Adam Hess, famed sketchsmiths Allnutt & Simpson, touted character comedienne Lou Sanders and MC Kieran Boyd. Tickets at this link.

Underwire Film Festival, Ritzy Picturehouse Brixton, 20-24 Nov (pictured)
Beginning tonight with a drinks reception and five competing short film screenings as part of the XX award, this year’s Underwire Fesitval celebrates – as in past years – female-made cinema via four days of sessions, showcases, seminars and (further) screenings. A diverse screen programme features Celia Imrie in Amelia Hann’s ‘The Visit’, precocious stop-motion animator Cat Bruce’s fox story ‘The Golden Bird’, whilst creatives share insights in myth-dispelling talks titled ‘Why Can’t Women Make Feature Films?’, ‘Giving Life To Stills’ and ‘Walking The Wire’. Details here.

The Changeling, Young Vic, 20 Nov – 22 Dec
Joe Hill-Gibbins’ boldly unhinged adaptation of Middleton and Rowley’s Jacobean staple, much praised when it played at the Young Vic’s Maria studio at the beginning of the year, now moves to the theatre’s main space. Tickets and casting info here.
