Dancing Around Duchamp

As I’m sure we’re all keenly aware, it’s St Valentines Day, a time to feast bacchanalially in the name of its Roman patron saint Valentinus, or alternatively, to buy a loved one/oneself chocolates and roses.

A facet of the Barbican’s ‘Dancing Around Duchamp’ season, a series of events, shows and talks in the name of famed urinal artist Marcel Duchamp, this particular art/music/dance performance traces Duchamp’s ideas and legacy in the doings of composer John Cage, choreographer Merce Cunningham, and visual artists Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. A Night Of Comedy In Aid Of The MS Society, Comedy Store Piccadilly, 14 Feb

Cariad Lloyd – The Freewheeling Cariad Lloyd, Soho Theatre, 14-16 Feb
“Comic pocket dynamo” (says The Guardian, and it is quite right) Cariad Lloyd reprises her wildly-praised 2012 Fringe show, giving characters like crazed child-lady Jooey Bechamel, Helena ‘HSBC’ Bonham Carter and Scandinavian sleuth Moomin Mama an additional airing. Details and tickets here.


The Paper Cinema’s Odyssey, Battersea Arts Centre, 14 Feb – 9 Mar
The Paper Cinema draw modern meaning from Homer’s ancient Greek saga, recasting its characters as 2D illustrations, and creating a silent animation featuring a live orchestral score. Details and tickets here.
