Funmbi Omotayo

As we say ‘bye’ to what has been a very hot July and ‘allo’, what say we party August-style with this upstanding summary of the day’s still-summery arts must-sees…

Pete Fowler – The Needle And The Damage Done, Beach Gallery, 1 Aug – 1 Sep
Super Furry Animals sleeve artist Pete Fowler presents this free, cleverly-Neil-Young-referencing exhibition of his finest cross-stitch needlings with a difference. Expect threads representing aliens, roadies, synths and owls, as well as a secret ‘interractive’ set he’s revealing this evening. Details and tickets here.

Funmbi Omotayo – The People’s Champ, Etcetera Theatre, 1-3 Aug (pictured)
Tipped by critics to do great things this year, the amiable Mr Funmbi Omotayo takes his marks ahead of  Edinburgh with this sneak glimpse at his new material. Part of the Camden Fringe. Details and tickets here.

The Same Deep Water As Me, Donmar Warehouse, 1 Aug – 28 Sep
Nick Payne, writer of last year’s Evening Standard Award-winning ‘Constellations’, dives into the slimy realm of accident and injury claims, as a man and his ‘high-school nemesis’ fall head first into a fast-escalating lie that lands them in… well, deep water. Details and tickets here.
