Today in London: Sunday 23 June 2013
By TW Editorial | Published on Tuesday 18 June 2013
The grand ‘days of the year’ almanac says it’s the United Nations’ Public Service Day today – a time to “celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlight the contribution of public service in the development process; recognise the work of public servants, and encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector”.
And so, with all that at ‘top of mind’, we at TW London are taking this chance to reward you, the London-based population, with this stately cultural garland of today’s arts activities and attractions…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Luke Stephens/Kieran Boyd/Henry Paker/Stuart Mitchell/Neil McFarlane, Downstairs at the King’s Head, 23 Jun (pictured)
Tonight’s trickily-titled Sunday Comedy Variety Cabaret co-stars one third of pin-sharp comic constants WitTank, Kieran Boyd (pictured), and the dry and debonair Henry Paker. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S FESTIVAL CHOICES
City Of London Festival, 23 Jun – 6 Jul
The City Of London Festival is its usual gigantine self again this year; planting a green and leafy programme based on a thematic triple–threat – city walls, trees and conflict – via a spreading canapy of classical recitals, street theatre and dance, family talks and walks, and even a part-real, part-fake ‘mobile orchard’. Details and tickets here.
Rivington Street Festival, various venues, Rivington Street, 23 Jun
Rivington Street is lined with an easterly-facing feast feat visual art and design installations, and DJs blasting live noise c/o a host of London’s niche R&B/pop/bass nights (Rock The Belles, Shorebitch, Livin Proof), notwithstanding photobooths, fancy dress, boutique shopping and a pop-up nail bar! Details and tickets here.
