The Cribs

How did we get to be two-thirds through October already? The shops will be going all Christmas on us any day now. What am I talking about, the supermarkets started selling festive junk at the start of September. Anyway, worry not about the passing of time, and instead make the most of these Autumnal cultural treats…

Q Awards Gigs – The Cribs, HMV Forum, 20 Oct (pictured)
Q HQ presents a superlative triple-bill as part of a series of live shows to match its impending 22 Oct Awards ceremony. Wakefield’s very finest The Cribs headline, with ex Orange Juice man Edwyn Collins and guitar band Mazes also playing a live night that, by default, is going to sound thrice as nice as any other happening in town. Tickets/details here.

Meet The Young Artists – The Juke Box, Linbury Studio Theatre at Royal Opera House, 20 Oct
The Jette Parker Young Artists, a 99% sell-out attraction at the ROH this year, perform an assorted repertoire of opera and musical theatre chosen entirely by the audience. Tickets for the 1pm matinee event are still available as I write here.

Squarepusher, Hackney Empire, 20 Oct
Having released his ‘Ufabulum’ LP in May, Warp-signed electronic artist Squarepusher will play the Hackney Empire in its honour. The show also marks the London debut of a custom ‘Ufabulum’ light show, SP’s largest-scale to date. Info here.

Hollywood Costume, Victoria & Albert Museum, 20 Oct-Jan 2013
The V&A styles an autumnal wardrobe in three ‘acts’, illustrating each phase of a designer’s role in creating costumes for cinema. Also on show (the majority of it for the first time ever), an archival array of silver-screen apparel featuring Judy Garland’s iconic ‘Wizard Of Oz’ ruby slippers, Johnny Depp’s rogueish ‘Pirates’ garb, and rare vintage items once modelled by Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn. Details here.
