We’re mid-way into international Ice Cream Month so, staying with that sticky-sweet vibe, here’s the creamy cultural filling to London’s ‘what’s on’ cone today…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Rich Hall’s Hoedown, Soho Theatre, 15-20 Jul
True-grit yank Rich Hall and his Hoedown band serve a steaming late-night gumbo of comic to-and-fro and “gratuitous coloration”, whatever that entails. “The floor will reek of liqour and spent dreams”, threatens its PR billing. Details and tickets here.
Stand Up For Stand Against Violence, Comedy Store, 15 Jul
The Comedy Store makes tonight the night to laugh hard and give charitably, as it hosts a gala in aid of Stand Against Violence backed by Fringe icon Daniel Kitson, TV wit Ed Byrne, ‘Derek’ actress Kerry Godliman, amiable Welshman Mark Watson and ex maths teacher, rap-battle MC and ThreeWeeks guest writer Romesh Ranganathan. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES
Laura Welsh, Africa Centre, 15 Jul
Polydor-signed pop waif Laura Welsh shops her hot new EP ‘Cold Front’ in this, its release-week. Details and tickets here.
TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, St James Theatre, 15-26 Jul
A nice timesaving idea, this, as fast-track theatricals Butterfly pack highlights of Shakespeare’s hearty fantasy classic into a 45-minute lunchbreak. Performances start at 1pm, and patrons are invited to BYO sandwiches, and/or take in a£5 snack bag, made on site. Details and tickets here.
