Marek Larwood

Global-novelty-day-of-the-day today is World Smile Day, which means all human beings on earth are obliged to beam continuously (and non-ironically) for 24 hours.

Fortunately, we at TW London have several natural ways to achieve and keep that all-day grin, not least one hilarious specialist bike film festival.

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Marek Larwood – Typecast, Pleasance Theatre, 5-7 Oct (pictured)
TW Edinburgh-beloved satirist and ex-Klang renegade Marek mocks comedy tropes and generally goofs about in ‘Typecast’, the strange and very silly fruit of ‘the time when…’ he Googled his name once. Details and ticket links via this link. And here’s a great column he wrote for TW Edinburgh when he performed the show at the Fringe this summer.

Stephen K Amos – Laughter Is My Agenda, Ashcroft Theatre, 5 Oct
Another TW favourite, South Londoner Stephen K Amos stops at Croydon’s Ashcroft with a single, self-evident comic memo – to make his audience laugh. As strong a dose of his even-paced charisma and affable crowd bating as was 2011’s ‘The Best Medicine’ Info here.

TODAY’S FILM CHOICES

Bicycle Film Festival, Barbican, 5-7 Oct
After an opening party last night, the Bicycle Film Fest’s be-spoke (sorry) Friday programme features offbeat Brooklynite romance ‘Candy Rides’, Timothy Spall-starring bereavement parable ‘Boy’, and ‘Georgena Terry’ which – unsurprisingly – relates the fascinating and inspirational biography of cycle revolutionary Georgena Terry. Also on the shortlist: shorts, docs and premieres to suit all interests, provided you like bikes. Programme specifics here.
