Hunt & Darton

Well, it’s very nearly the weekend, so why not make the most of tonight’s almost-Saturday goings-on by having a go at one, or all, of this London-based lot?

TODAY’S FESTIVAL CHOICES

It’s All About Piano!, Institut français, 22-24 Mar
As its title states, the IF’s first ever ivory-tinkling arts fete is 100% piano-based, and will thus feature relevant film screenings, activities and talks; a secret Cabinet Of Curiosities performance space stashed away in the Institut’s art deco library, and très cool live recitals by Parisian jazzist Baptiste Trotignon (pictured above), soprano Felicity Lott and French-Cypriot composer Cyprien Katsaris. It’ll be grand, especially if you like pianos. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

NZCA Lines/Teleman/East India Youth/Dark Bells/Fews/Paradise, Roundhouse, 22 Mar
Live-promotions co Eat Your Own Ears presents a ‘Handpicked’ bevy of select and hypeable acts – not least NZCA/Lines, East India Youth, and Teleman – and at £5 a ticket all in. Details and tickets here.

Club NME presents… Wolf Alice, Koko, 22 Mar
Grunge-pop poster girl Ellie Rowsell and her wolfish Alice band trip the NME’s Friday night lights by playing a pre-party show at Camden’s Koko tonight. Listen to WA’s first single ‘Fluffy’ here. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

Mind Walking, Albany Theatre, 22 Mar
‘Mind Walking’ is playwright Tanika Gupta and aerial theatre co BandBazi’s moving and ethereal dramatic take on dementia, racial identity, and familial bonds. Read TW London’s Q&A with the show’s choreographer Philippa Vafadari via this link. Details and tickets here. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S VISUAL ART CHOICES

Hunt & Darton Cafe, 118 Lower Clapton Road, 22 Mar (pictured)
A rare treat at last year’s Fringe, artistic baristas Jenny Hunt and Holly Darton tonight start ‘alternative service’ at their real live Clapton-based cafe, which isn’t any normal cafe, but rather a caffeine and cake-selling art installation unto itself. Patrons can anticipate special commisions, “low brow” signage, guest speakers bearing “Martini readings, radio shows, relationship advice and even swivel-lympics”. Intrigued? Thirsty? Go take a look. Details here.
