Reginald D Hunter

So we may be several days shy of Bonfire Night, but November’s first Friday is nevertheless a sparkling affair. The Natural History Museum’s Ice Rink opens to pre-Christmas skaters, whilst parks in Brockwell, Streatham, Fulham and Kingston are hosting aerial pyrotechnics, rockets and whizzbangs galore. No damp squibs amid tonight’s comedy and film choices, either…

Seven Deadly Sins, Barbican, 2 Nov-9 Dec

It’s a baptism of fire and brimstone for the Barbican’s two new hi-tech cinema screens, as a collective of cardinal film celebs are asked to choose a movie to match each of the Seven Deadly Sins. For instance while Sam Taylor-Wood will represent ‘envy’ via ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, Kazuo Ishiguro illustrates ‘pride’ in ‘La Silence De La Mer’ and Richard Ayoade conveys ‘sloth’ in ‘The Graduate’. Nick Broomfield, Vivienne Westwood, Andrea Arnold, Mike Leigh and Stephen Frears are also billed to appear ‘in conversation’ at a series of events inaugurating the Barb’s new ‘Step Into The Dark’ season.
