And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…
CIRCUS: Barely Methodical Troupe – Bromance | Platform Theatre | 8-10 Jan (pictured)
This year’s London International Mime Festival backflips off (literally) to a strong start with this show from bold young trio Barely Methodical, who are multi-award-winning pros at parkour, B-boying, tricking and hand-to-hand acrobatics. Details and tickets here.
FILM: Berlin Calling | Barbican | 8-29 Jan
A season of five films that each give an insight into the climate of radicalism and experimentation 1970s and 1980s West Berlin, the Barbican’s ‘Berlin Calling’ first-off features screenings of Wim Wenders’ black-and-white 1987 fairytale ‘Wings Of Desire’, cult trans-spectacular punk movie ‘City Of Lost Souls’ (with introduction by journalist Juliet Jacques), phantasmagorical nighttime movie ‘Ticket Of No Return’ (with intro by The Wire editor and Berliner Chris Bohn), and, perhaps most iconically of all, 1981’s dirty, pretty, Bowie-scored ‘Christiane F’. Details and tickets here.
MUSIC: J Mascis | The Scala | 8 Jan
Mr J Mascis, the ‘cool wizard’-looking frontman of American dirt-rock beasts Dinosaur Jr, shows of his (only slightly) softer side at this solo Scala stop, a victory lap for his latest LP ‘Tied To A Star’. Details and tickets here.
