Medea

And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…

COMEDY: Comedy In The Attic w/ Alfie Brown | Hackney Attic | 4 Sep
Combatant comic (and TW interviewee) Alfie Brown headlines this night of loft-based stand-up in Hackney, with likeable everyman Luke Graves, idiosyncratic entertainer Harriet Kemsley and Funny Women Awards Finalist circa 2013 Saskia Preston adding extra appeal to the bill. ‘Coach Trip’ star Joey Page is MC-ing for the duration, and entry is a mere fiver OTD, or in advance. Details and tickets here.

FILM/FESTIVAL: The Peckham & Nunhead Free Film Festival | various locations | 4-14 Sep
So, cinema fans, one of a crowd of trendy yet kid-friendly free-entry film fests taking place in the city at various intervals this year, the Peckham & Nunhead FFF with a selection of restored digitised shorts made by the Edwardian-era Gaumont Film Studios, which was based in Camberwell. There’ll be a live piano score playing alongside the films, which will be shown, aptly, at the Dog Kennel Hill Open Space in Camberwell! Latter highlights of the programme at large are a rooftop spool of Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’, a showing of the movingly monochrome ‘Nebraska’ in a deli, a bike-powered ‘Belleville Rendez-vous’ in the open air, a night of 100% free cinema at the usually pay-per-view Peckhamplex. Details here.

FILM/THEATRE: National Theatre Live presents… Medea | Barbican | 4 Sep (pictured)
Beaming live into the Barbican via the digi-miracle of ‘real-time streaming’, it’s the NT’s eerie adaptation of Euripides’ ultra-tragic spine chiller ‘Medea’. Directed by the dynamic Carrie Cracknell, the play stars Narcissa Malfoy aka stage/screen actress Helen McCrory as an exiled wife willing to do anything (anything) to keep her children close. Details and tickets here.
