And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

MUSIC: King Crimson | Hackney Empire | 7-8 Sep
If you know anything about the history of prog rock (and I do, sadly, thanks to my choice in life-partner) then you’ll be aware of King Crimson as major purveyors of the genre. They’ve been around with a changing line up since 1967, though the current membership dates back to 2013.  Given their wide range of influence (jazz, folk, classical, psychedelic rock, hard rock, new wave, electronica, drum and bass), there’s a high chance they’ll appeal whatever your taste in music happens to be… see the venue website here here for info and tickets.

THEATRE: Tonight I’m Gonna Be The New Me | Soho Theatre | 7-26 Sep
As you may know, our team have recently been up in Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival, and did much sampling of the many cultural offerings on, er, offer. This show was one of the shows we gave a very complimentary review to, and it seems we weren’t the only publication to say positive things about it. The company, Made In China, are now headed for a run at Soho Theatre. Info and tickets from this page here.

COMEDY: Zoe Coombs Marr: Dave | Soho Theatre | 1-12 Sep
Yes, yes, it’s another show that’s on at Soho Theatre, but lots of Edinburgh Fringe stuff goes to the Soho soon after the Festival is over, and it’s all still very much on my mind. Plus, this is comedy, and the previous suggestion was theatre. Anyway, this is definitely a show worth seeing: Zoe Coombs Marr has received high praise for her skewering portrayal of sexist comedian Dave. Info and tickets from right about here.
