And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Hangmen | Wyndham’s Theatre | 1 Dec-5 Mar (pictured)
Following a highly acclaimed run at the Royal Court, renowned writer Martin McDonagh’s latest play has transferred to Wyndham’s theatre for a limited run. Set in a pub in Oldham, it focuses on the doings of the “second best hangman in England” on the day that hanging was abolished. I doubt you’ll regret making time to see this dark comedy with a fab cast. See this page here for more info and to book.

A Christmas Carol | Jermyn Street Theatre | 7 Dec
Oh, I love Christmas, and I can never – repeat, never – have too many different versions of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to take in. For me, it’s as much about the writer’s incredible use of language as it is about the Christmassy plot, so this one, a one-off performed reading of the Dickens classic from veteran actor Timothy Ackroyd, should be just the ticket. And talking of which, book one on the venue website here.

It’s A Wonderful Life | Ovalhouse | 7 Dec
And from one Christmas classic straight into another. Yes, it’s that ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, in all its grainy 1946 glory. Everyone’s favourite cinematic winter treat, screened at the Ovalhouse cafe, where you’ll be offered festive drinks and snacks. I can feel the cockles of my cold, cold heart warming a little, just at the thought. Info here.
