And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…
Allegro | Southwark Playhouse | 5 Aug-10 Sep
This nearly-seventy year old hit from Rodgers and Hammerstein has waited all this time to get its European premiere, despite the fact that back in 1947 The New York Times called it “A work of great beauty and purity”. It’s the story of an average Joe from a midwestern town on a journey of self-discovery. For more info, see this page here.
Transmission | Jackson’s Lane | various dates
Jackson’s Lane’s Transmission strand is back for a fourth year of circus residencies from international companies, during which performers from all over the world develop new work and test ideas, then share the results. The first showing is today, and they go on until early September, see the venue website here for more info.
And The Ugly | Camden People’s Theatre | 5-7 Aug (pictured)
This one is part of the previously mentioned and definitely brilliant Camden Fringe, and appears to a be a piece that falls somewhere between dance and theatre, as a duo of performers experiment with storytelling and movement. Two women come together to discuss the important elements of everyday life, and explore themes of love and loss, friendship and mental health. Head this way for details.
