Three To See on 3 Jun: Rocket Girl, Penquin Pig, Beautiful Thing

And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Rocket Girl | Drayton Arms Theatre | 3-4 Jun
“The year is 1969 and the world is changing. Beehives and miniskirts are all the rage; Everyone is listening to The Beatles; Where a bag of fish and chips would cost you 25p. And NASA has just put the first man on the moon. The world is transfixed and everyone is watching, including eight-year-old Maisie Robinson. From the very moment she saw man on the moon, Maisie knew that she was destined to be an astronaut.” This is a work in progress, but I am intrigued. See this page here for more.

Penguinpig | Omnibus Theatre | 3 Jun (pictured)
If you live down Clapham way and are keen to entertain a child between the ages of 3 and 8 (and the truth is, you very well might, as it’s a Sunday, and the end of half term) then you’re in luck. Though I must stress you don’t actually have to live in Clapham to visit the Omnibus Theatre. Anyway, it’s an e-safety cautionary tale based on the best-selling picture book by Stuart Spendlow that you may well have heard of or even read yourself. See the venue website here for info.

Beautiful Thing | Above The Stag Theatre | 1-29 Jun
“Jamie is secretly in love with his sporty and more sociable schoolmate, Ste. When Ste is badly beaten up by his violent father and  brother, Jamie and his mum offer Ste a place to stay. But they don’t have a spare bedroom – or bed.” Jonathan Harvey’s acclaimed 1993 play, revived at the new Above The Stag venue at Albert Embankment. All the details are here.
