League Of Gentlemen

TODAY IN LONDON Rowan Atkinson and a ‘league’ (hint) of a-list comics, rom-com maestro Richard Curtis, heirs-to-Mumford The Mispers and noise-pop duo No Joy feature in the following TW-recommended events…

COMEDY: Royal Free Rocks With Laughter, Adelphi Theatre, 1 Dec
Held as a funding drive to build a new immunity unit at the Royal Free Hospital, this incredible (we’re talking near-unbelievable, really) gala bill is lead by oh, only Rowan Atkinson, and features D-list celebs Harry Hill, Mitchell & Webb, Jo Brand, Julian Clary, Harry Enfield,  Matt Lucas, Lee Mack, Tim Vine and Paul Whitehouse. And a casual re-appearance by the League Of Gentlemen. It’s really no big deal. Details and (very pricey) tickets available here.

FILM: The Flicker Club presents… About Time, Bounce, 1 Dec
Richard Curtis turns out to introduce this unique showing of his funny summer flick ‘About Time’ – unique because the price of a ticket includes unlimited rounds of ping pong at the home of ‘cool’ London ping pong, Bounce. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: No Joy, The Macbeth, 1 Dec
Noisy but nice-sounding pop duo No Joy hope to put tonight’s crowd in a jocular mood, proffering their second LP ‘Wait To Pleasure’. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Communion Christmas Club Night feat The Mispers/Bear’s Den/Luke Sital-Singh/Marcus Foster, Notting Hill Arts Club, 1 Dec
Rumoured heirs to the Mumford & Sons throne (a dubious title, to be sure), The Mispers reign over the line-up for top indie imprint Communion’s yuletide club night, which brings in ‘swag’ band Bear’s Den, wry singer-songwriter Luke Sital-Singh, Tom Waits-ian bluesman Marcus Foster and an after party featuring a ‘vs’ DJ set by Michael Kiwanuka and The Vaccines. Details and tickets here.
