Second comedy sector survey launched

The Live Comedy Association has launched another Comedy Sector Survey, again working in partnership with Brunel University and the British Comedy Guide.

It’s the second year that the trade group has encouraged everyone working in comedy – both comedians and those working behind the scenes, as promoters, managers and agents, as well as at venues and festivals – to fill out the survey about their work and their experiences of the industry.

LCA explains, “this survey is collecting data about the UK’s live comedy sector to help explain and demonstrate the impact the industry has, and to identify and signal where it needs more support”.

One key aim of the survey is to empower the LCA’s work trying to get the comedy industry onto the agenda of policymakers in government. Unlike other strands of the creative industries, comedy has rarely been represented in political debates, which means it’s harder for the sector to get government support when it’s needed.

Last year’s survey resulted in a report providing insights into how the live comedy sector works for the first time. It also helped LCA to secure a specific session on comedy in Parliament where representatives of the sector were questioned by MPs on the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee.

If you work in comedy you can fill out the survey here.
