New comedian’s safety guide published

Two new guides have been published providing advice for how to make the comedy circuit a safer place for performers, with one aimed at comedians and the other at promoters.

Launched at an event at London’s Museum Of Comedy, the guides have been informed by research work undertaken by academics at the University Of Kent looking at harassment in the live comedy industry.

‘The Comedian’s Safety Guide’ begins by stating, “everyone deserves to feel safe from harassment and assault. This includes everyone working on the live comedy circuit, whether paid or unpaid”.

“This guide”, it then explains, “was developed from a research project at the University Of Kent. We asked comedians what they and others can do to protect performers from harassment and assault in order to make comedy clubs safer for everyone. This guide compiles their tips and info”.

Both guides are available for free here.
