And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…

COMEDY: Tig Notaro – Boyish Girl Interrupted | Shepherd’s Bush Empire | 1 Sep
Having first gained poignant notice in 2012 after confirming, live on stage at LA’s Largo, that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer earlier that day, laidback American comedienne Mathilde ‘Tig’ Notaro is now back, “happy and healthy”, with her latest solo show ‘Boyish Girl Interrupted’. Details and tickets here.

MUSIC: Chad Vangaalen | Oslo | 1 Sep
Calgary’s #1 garage-rock scrap man, the amazing Chad VanGaalen, plays live at Oslo all for the love (and sales) of his brillo latest LP, ‘Shrink Dust’, which is also the score to an animated sci-fi film he made titled ‘Translated Log Of Inhabitants’. Details and tickets here.

OPERA: Aikainen | Arcola Theatre | 1-3 Sep
A multimedia meditation on time and temporality with a score generated by 3D-printed instruments, this experimental movement by Miika Hyytiäinen is (obvs) no ordinary opera. It plays on as part of the Arcola’s innovative Grimeborn festival, and features real-life vocalists Annika Fuhrmann and Frauke Aulbert singing against three voices on a 3D video screen. Details and tickets here.
